Turkey Report

Hello again from Turkey,

AIESEC International Congress has started! After the morning plannery and a 3 hour rollcall presentation of all 100 AIESEC member countries, we attended to a Global Village. Slovenia had quite a good stand this year. Me and Emil brought many diverse brochures and books and promotion materials of Slovenia, i brought some potica and Emil brought mostly pork food like zaseka and kranjske klobase. We kind of forgot that we are in a muslim country where most of people are not really very enthusiastic about pork, but - we are actively learning. We were thinking about lying that zaseka and klobase were made from sheep's fat, but we decided it would not be the most socially responsible thing to do. Cultural sensitivity is really important here. Oh yeah, AIESEC has an impact on us :)
After the Global Village we had an official opening ceremony with representitives of all global partners. I always tend to compare all the events with last year's IC in Poland. This year's opening ceremony was much cheaper and shorter than last year's which is great, because official ceremonies can get quite boring if they are too long. This year we watched the Fire of Anatolia dancers and another turkish religious band performing on the stage amongst many speaches from the big guys of the global partner companies and some high profile representatives from Turkey.

Every country is supposed to bring at least one delegate to IC, but every country sends more. Usually about 5 to 10. It is sometimes sad to see that even Afghanistan has managed to bring more delegates to International Congress than Slovenians. I would like to warn my members to start collecting money for International Congress in Brasil in 2008 now! IC is compulsory for at least one MC member or LCP from each country, so you will have to go there. But you will not regret any cent spent on it! The ability to attend IC is not the matter of money or exams, its the matter of effective personal goal setting and time management. Now everyone know that Brasil is far away, so there should be no excuse not to go to Brail next year!
On the picture you can see the president of AIESEC International delivering the session about AIESEC Way, its the new term for our identity.
